Welcome to the Peer Support Unit Self-Check Quiz!

Welcome to the Peer Support Unit Self-Check Quiz!

The Boston Police Peer Support Unit has joined with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to create the Self-Check Quiz. This is a safe, easy way to learn whether stress and depression might be affecting you.

Using this service is completely voluntary and confidential. No information will be shared with the Boston Police Department.

This is not an emergency response system. If you are in crisis or contemplating suicide, please call an on-call Peer Counselor immediately at 617-594-9091 or dial 911.

We hope you'll take advantage of this safe and easy service.

There are 3 easy steps

  1. Fill out a brief Self-Check Quiz, identifying yourself only with a User ID that you select. There are no required questions - just answer the ones you are comfortable with.
  2. A Peer Counselor will review it and leave a personal response for you on this secure website within 24 hours or sooner. Peer Counselors are Active Duty Police Officers trained to support their fellow officers. The Peer Counselor's response will offer options for follow-up if it's felt that could be helpful.
  3. You decide what's next. You may want to talk to the Peer Counselor through this website or in person, or get a referral to see a staff clinician. Or, you can decide to do nothing further at this time. It's all up to you. No follow-up services will be provided unless you request them.

Protecting your privacy

Your identity will not be known to the Peer Counselor.

You'll have the option of providing an email address on your Self-Check Quiz so the computer system can notify you when a Peer Counselor's response is ready. Having your email address will also enable the system to retrieve a forgotten User ID or password.

Your email address will be encrypted in the computer system and will not be revealed to anyone, including the Peer Counselor. As further protection, you may wish to set up a new email account (e.g. gmail, yahoo, aol) that does not contain any part of your first or last name.

If you don't give an email address, at the completion of the Self-Check Quiz you'll be told when to return to this website to get the Peer Counselor's response.
